This is my 34th year teaching first grade, and I still get butterflies every August. There is nothing in the world like teaching my firstie loves to read, write, and grow In Love with LEARNING…it makes my heart SO HAPPY!

Our classroom is so much more than four walls and a whiteboard. It’s our Home Away From Home for ten whole months. I work to create a Happy Classroom Family: a space that feels happy, cozy, and safe, where every single thing on the wall earns its spot by helping my firsties learn.

Hand-Drawn with Love, Made to Share

For more than 15 years, I’ve been hand-drawing my own clipart and creating happy classroom resources. I am a self-taught clip artist. My smiling vowels, funky phonics alphabet, sound wall pictures, happy crayon friends, cheerful calendar, and cute visual schedule stick pals: I created them because I wanted materials that looked and felt like my classroom. Nothing makes me happier than hearing that a resource I made helped a little learner in another classroom smile and finally “get it.”
